Marty was inundated with questions during his first ‘Evening With Marty Wilde‘ show at the Radlett Centre on October 20th 2024. Due to time restraints he wasn’t able to answer all of the questions you so kindly put forward. But as promised here they are, with the answers.

How do you spend Christmas, with all the family?
Sing together?
Our Christmas’ are fragmented to a certain extent, most times we meet individually – and we only sing together for the public.

Obviously my family and playing golf badly.

Most of the time I am so involved with what i am doing – so I don’t have the time.

(1)Question: With your tremendous success in the UK. Were you ever tempted by the bright lights of America, to make a move and further your career there? If so, what made you decide to stay?
I would have loved to have been a star in America, but it wasn’t to be and apart from that I could never live anywhere else but in this wonderful country of ours
(2) Question: How do you think the music industry has changed since you first started and what are your thoughts on the direction it’s going now?
The music industry has become like a fast food chain, here today, gone tomorrow which I don’t like.
(3) Question: What was your favourite food when you were growing up and what is your top dish now?
My favourite food was porridge, and my favourite food now is Japanese cuisine.
(4) Question: Looking back on your incredible career, what are you most proud of and how do you hope to be remembered?
I’m most proud of being able to help Kim in her career, and for my medal received from the Queen for services to the music industry, and sadly I don’t think I will be remembered.

Question: During the 1970’s you recorded lots of singles under pseudonyms like Zappo, Ruby Pearl, Yellow Bird and Scrumpy & Dumpy. Was this born out of necessity? What can you tell about this?
All the different names I recorded under were always tackled with a tongue- in- cheek attitude – and quite frankly, it was just Peter Shelley and myself having a ball.

Question: What was it like working with Eddie Cochran?
To work with Eddie Cochran was a real pleasure, an incredibly talented musician and a wonderful fun loving man.

Question: Did you, Joe,Adam,Bily etc. get on well?
Joe and Billy were really good friends, I didn’t know Adam very well, but he recorded one of my songs called ‘Daddy What Will Happen To Me’

No – one springs to mind.
(2) Did you ever meet Elvis?
Unfortunately, my chance to meet him was disrupted when I had to do a television show instead of meeting him in Germany.

Question: Did you have any say on the stage name Larry Parnes gave you?
Larry tossed a coin and won twice, so instead of Reg Patterson, it was Marty Wilde.

Question: You toured 60 years ago with The Ronettes, and the Rolling Stones etc.
Did you ever envisage the Rolling Stones becoming such a huge global attraction they became?

I thought the Rolling Stones would be major stars and have enjoyed many of their great records.

I gave Michael Cox a song I had brought back from America called Angela Jones which I took to Joe Meek.

My golf handicap is 19.7 and I am not a very good player.
